My Kinda Freedom #BehindTheBlogger

This is the second writing prompt in the #BehindTheBlogger hop. This week we are going to talk all about freedom. Since Independence Day is coming soon, I figured this would be the perfect prompt!

As I sit back and think to myself, what is freedom to me? My mind goes wild. There are so many things that I am free to do that I don’t appreciate like I should. There are a lot of people like me that complain about mundane things, while not really thinking of how lucky we are to live in a free country. I am so very lucky to sit here and write this for you all. You are lucky to sit back and read this. We are free and we should be very thankful.

As you read this, please think about the freedoms that you are thankful for and tell me in the comments below.

My Kinda Freedom is…

The Freedom to Love. It was just a few days ago that the Supreme Court legalized Same-Sex Marriage across the USA. I am a huge equal rights advocate and this just makes my heart so very happy. We now REALLY have the freedom to LOVE. I am in a straight relationship, but I still cried on the day that I found out. I believe that we all deserve equal rights. If you set aside politics and religion, what’s left? LOVE.

I just love, LOVE. I love that I have the freedom to love without boundaries. I can love without judgement. I can marry who I want, when I want. I don’t have an arranged marriage. I am not forced to be with someone. I don’t have to hide who I love. I don’t have to hide my heart. I have the freedom to love and be loved.  The freedom to love is my kinda freedom.

The Freedom to Laugh. We all deserve a laugh. Not a day goes by that I don’t laugh. Whether it be to myself, at the TV, or with my boyfriend, I find a reason to laugh. I have the freedom to laugh when I am happy. I don’t have negative people around me pulling me down with them. I don’t have to be ashamed of being happy.

Laughter is one of my favorite freedoms because it helps and heals. Just like love, laughter is a universal language. It can ease an awkward situation. It can help you forget about a heartbreak, at least for a few seconds. The freedom to laugh is my kinda freedom.

The Freedom to Speak. This is why I love my country. I can speak my mind without filters. Yes, maybe it will offend someone, but at least I am FREE to offend someone. lol. I am free to say, “Hey! What you are doing is NOT okay” or “Hey! You’re a pretty wonderful person and I support you”. I have the freedom to use my voice to make positive changes in my life, the lives of others, and the world.

I couldn’t imagine living in a country where my voice didn’t matter. I couldn’t imagine not being allowed to vote, to speak against something that isn’t right, to speak up for what is right. I am allowed to protest. I am allowed to publicly speak. I am allowed to make silly and weird YouTube videos. I am allowed to sit here and write to all of you. I have the freedom to speak and that is my kinda freedom.

The Freedom to Create. What would I be without creativity? I wouldn’t be the open minded, happy woman that I am. Suppressed creativity is not okay. Even those with immense amount of pain express themselves through art. Creating is how I express my feelings. It’s like a weight off of my shoulders. Writing this post gives me a joy that cannot be understood by anyone, but a creator. I have thoughts, emotions, ideas, and drive. How could I not express that?

I express my love through my creativity. I express my anger through creativity. I express my sadness through creativity. The freedom to create is not only my kinda freedom, but it is a necessary freedom.

Las Vegas, NV - What is living if you can't go where you want and do what you want? If you can't travel?
What is living if you can’t go where you want and do what you want? If you can’t travel?

The Freedom to Live. Thinking about the pain, suffering, and death in the world, I am just so thankful for the freedom to live. I am free to take a walk down my street without fearing for my life. I am free to say, talk, walk, believe, and dress how I want without being harassed, tortured, or killed. This is another reason why I am thankful to live in my country. It breaks my heart to think that there are people in this world fearing for their lives on a daily basis.

Not only am I free to live, I am free to live comfortably and in a safe environment. I am protected by the laws of the land. I am protect by those around me who love me. I am protected by a country of incredible people that have hearts. I am free to walk by myself, to be angry, to love, to laugh, to speak, to create, to express, and to live a long, beautiful life. The freedom to live is my kinda freedom.

Thank you for reading a story from #BehindTheBlogger Hop. Every 2 weeks a group of bloggers is given a writing prompt. These prompts are very open ended, so our bloggers can write about whatever they desire. The main rule is that their blog post directly relates to the topic of that week. The point of this hop is for our readers to get to know us on a personal level.

Please hop along and read all of the blog posts in this weeks hop. Just click the links below. If you want real and raw emotion, then you will find it here. After you read each post, please comment and share. We want to get to know you too!

  1. These all ring so true to me. I cried as well when I saw the announcement about the Supreme court decision. So did Jarrod. Even though we have been free to marry at any time, we have been waiting for the day when everyone was free to marry. I’m loving the Nelson Mandela quote too by the way.

  2. Beautiful! I feel like freedoms are sometimes taken advantage of … even the ones you listed (that not everyone thinks about as “freedoms). The freedom to LIVE … you really hit the nail on the head. Enjoy life! You only have one shot 🙂

  3. Great post! I think we all get busy with celebrating the holiday but rarely site back and really think about what it all means. Thanks for sharing this and really giving me several reasons to be thankful today :).

  4. This was beautifully written. It’s great that you have so much gratitude. It’s how everyone should be. I feel very grateful for all of these things as well. Thanks for sharing.
