An area in Montreal not so commonly known by tourists and foreigners is the Monkland/NDG area. NDG stands for Notre-Dame des Grace, a residential neighborhood located in the city’s West End. Although the area is primarily residential, one of the must-visit streets is located in the part of the city.

Monkland Street is not only a great place to go for a walk and get necessities such as groceries for residents but it has developed into a very trendy area where tourists should visit. The avenue truly has something to offer for everyone. With a wide range of activities and things to do, tourists or residents could visit shops, enjoy a variety of foods or simply sit out and enjoy the beautiful patios and terraces.

Something in this area that really stands out is the wide range of restaurants, bars and eateries. It will be difficult to choose when coming, and therefore here is a list of the best restaurants on Monkland. This should help you narrow things down based on personal preference, as every person is different and comes to Montreal with different aspirations and tastes in mind. Here is a list, in no particular order.

  1. Lucille’s Oyster Bar – Visit this restaurant/brasserie not only for food but also for an experience. With a wide variety of seafood options, it is the perfect place for seafood lovers. Menu adjusts seasonally based on availability, but specials are always available! Look into this option!
  1. Pizzedelic – The perfect spot to come with kids or to watch the big game, there’s always something going on! With weekly specials and classics, this is an affordable option. With a vibrant atmosphere and a lovely outdoor patio overlooking Monkland Street, you’ll love it!
  1. Mikado Sushi – For a fancier, more romantic spot, head here and you’ll fall in love! A Japanese restaurant specializing in sushi and sashimi. Mikado’s philosophy is a 3-step process to keep customers happy – Creativity, simplicity, balance.
  1. Taverne – A more expensive option, but definitely worth it! Featuring a terrace on the Avenue, this restaurant offers an incredible atmosphere to go along with favorite foods! They offer excellently crafted cocktails and appetizers for those who simply wish to enjoy something small.

While all of these restaurants are certain to appeal to your taste buds and keep you happy, Monkland Street also offers a unique festival every year. With 7 blocks of food and fun, it is for sure a can’t miss event for the entire family! Promoting the local community, it’s a feel-good event to bring everyone together!

Once visiting the area, whether you’re a tourist or a resident of another part of the city, there is a good chance that you’ll fall in love and want to make it your new home.
