Alice Through The Looking Glass Review: It’s maddening, whimsical, & quite touching #ThroughTheLookingGlass

I spent Monday night rewatching Alice In Wonderland. I wanted to refresh my memory before heading to the theater to see Alice Through The Looking Glass. Let me begin by disclosing that I have not read the books. I grew up on Disney movies, so my form of reference is the animated Alice and the live-action version. Being that I haven't read the books, I didn't know exactly what to expect with Through The Looking Glass. I knew that Johnny Depp as Madhatter was returning, which was enough to reel me in.

Alice Through The Looking Glass Review

Alice Through The Looking Glass immediately begins with action and it doesn't die down for a second. There is truly never a dull moment in this movie. It exceeded my expectations and between us, I like it better than the first. Both are very different, though. The first movie is basically introducing an audience to all of the characters and to the Alice story. Through The Looking Glass goes deeper into the lives of the characters, specifically Madhatter. I personally felt a deeper connection with the characters and found this movie to be incredibly touching.

Alice Through The Looking Glass Review

Johnny Depp is Hatter in Disney's ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS, an all new adventure featuring the characters from Lewis Carroll's beloved stories..

We are introduced to the maddening life of the Madhatter himself. Except, it's not as maddening as you'd think. It's actually quite touching. He's searching for his family that he thinks is alive. He's gone “mad” and has locked himself in his house. When Alice shows up at his door he's so excited and welcoming. He explains to her that he thinks his family is alive. Alice, understandably, doesn't want him to get his hopes up and basically tells him that his family isn't alive. This breaks Madhatters heart and suddenly, he truly goes mad. His face and hair change colors. He becomes very angry and makes Alice leave. Now, the journey begins.

Alice Through The Looking Glass Review

Alice (Mia Wasikowska) returns to Underland and meets Time (Sacha Baron Cohen) in Disney's ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS.

Alice goes on an unforgettable and whimsical adventure back in TIME to find out what happened to Madhatter's family. The journey is magical, imaginative, and quite funny. The “Time” jokes are just too much. There were parts that had me laughing until I cried. Then there were parts that really touched my heart. The story itself was very well written. Alice fans are going to love getting a glimpse into the past of a few of our favorite characters – Madhatter, Red Queen, and White Queen.

Alice Through The Looking Glass Review

Alice (Mia Wasikowska) returns to the whimsical world of Underland in Disney's ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS. In the all-new adventure Anne Hathaway returns as the White Queen, Matt Lucas is the Tweedles, Stephen Fry is the voice of Chessur, Michael Sheen is the voice of the White Rabbit, Timothy Spall voices Bayard, Paul Whitehouse is the voice of the March Hare and Barbara Windsor is the voice of Dormouse.

I absolutely love how crazy Alice movies are. They give life to anything and everything. It makes me giggle to think of the personalities they've given to “seconds” and “minutes”. It's fun, silly, bold, and colorful. Alice will always be a classic and Through The Looking Glass will go down in history as one of the greatest of all time.
