When we were kids… Remember When #BehindTheBlogger

I love reminiscing on good times. It's one of my favorite things to do. I think that I am addicted to nostalgia. It's one of the most natural, beautiful feelings that we can ever have. Nostalgia is described as “a sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations.” If you feel nostalgia about anything, then life has brought you moments of happiness that will always live within you. I think of nostalgia as “remembering when” because it's always something that I say when thinking of the good ole days. I thought that I'd share a few with you.

Remember When

One of the very few photos I have with my group of friends back then. I'm the skeleton.

I remember when I was a kid full of wonder. I had a neighborhood of friends and our biggest concerns were about what game we were going to play that day. We never played inside because it was dark and boring – it could very well have been compared to captivity. We chose to play with dirt rather than ovideo games. We chose climbing trees over watching TV. My fondest memories at this age consisted of building forts out of logs and palmettos. We didn't have a specific curfew. It was time to go home when the sun went down or when our parents called our names out of the front door. Speaking of calling… we didn't have cell phones. In fact, we didn't even use house phones. If we wanted to play with our friends, we had a top secret call that we'd shout across the large neighborhood. If we heard a “hoot” back, then it was time to run as fast as we could to the coolest house on the – the one with the trampoline.

I will always remember that trampoline. I developed my first crush on a boy on that trampoline. I got into my first fight on that trampoline. I had my first adult-free sleepover on that trampoline. Our imaginations never slowed down on that trampoline. My girlfriends and I revealed our biggest secrets, created the best competitions, and made the fondest memories on that darn trampoline. I sprained my ankle after jumping on the trampoline after it rained – and walked two blocks home with my sprained ankle. There were many injuries, but when you're a kid – it's kinda cool.

Life was so much different when we were kids. Technology hadn't made a huge appearance yet, so we enjoyed the world, nature, and each other just like we should. I'm still friends with a couple of those neighborhood kids. Nothing makes us smile more than when we Remember When...

I’m addicted to nostalgia, too! My husband and I collect toys and games from when we were younger and going to thrift stores is always fun when we run across things from our childhood. Sometimes I really wish I had a time machine so I could go back and relive so many moments from when I was a kiddo.

We bought the kids a trampoline last year for this reason! We even took the cage off when it broke and haven’t replaced it! GASP!

Ah, yes I miss the days of childhood before technology took over…the days when we knew how to keep ourselves entertained, and be creative on our own. I hope I can raise my own children to appreciate the world outside of their screen time, at least to an extent.
