8 upcoming movie trailers that will give you nightmares – Horror Movies 2016

I am all about scary movies. The thing is that most movies these days just aren't horrifying enough to really give me the creeps. There are some movies that have genuinely terrified me, like The Strangers and The Fourth Kind. For the most part, movies nowadays days are remakes or just too fake for me to take it seriously. I like movies about things that could really happen. Basically, I'm not into the whole aliens and monsters thing, but there are some movies that I will make an exception for. I must say, 2016 has been quite impressive on the movie front. There are some movies coming this year (and next) that are going to chill me to my very core. If watching the trailers gives you goosebumps, just imagine how scary the movies are going to be.

These upcoming movies are going to be REALLY terrifying (which I prefer). Just watch these 8 trailers – but don't watch them alone or you'll be sorry. Horror movies 2016 for the win!1. Split – 1/20/17

This movie is going to be INSANE – in more ways than one. This movie gives me chills because it's so trippy. This is a psychological thriller in every sense of the term! I can't wait to find out more!

Kevin, a man with at least 23 different personalities, is compelled to abduct three teenage girls. As they are held captive, a final personality – “The Beast” – begins to materialize.

2. Before I Wake – 9/9

This trailer gives me the creeps. It makes me jump every time I watch it. It's also quite mysterious. I am definitely curious about what happens next.

A young couple adopt an orphaned child whose dreams – and nightmares – manifest physically as he sleeps.

3. Don't Breathe – 8/26

I've been looking forward to this movie since I first saw the trailer. This is a story that I've never heard before. It's exciting, frightening, and makes me want more. It will definitely be one that makes me jump a lot. That's what I look forward to in a scary movie.

A group of friends break into the house of a wealthy blind man, thinking they'll get away with the perfect heist. They're wrong.

4. Bye Bye Man – 12/9

I cannot even finish watching this trailer because it creeps me out way too much, especially because it's based on true events. This trailer is a bit violent, so be prepared! I can't wait for this one.

Three friends stumble upon the horrific origins of the Bye Bye Man, a mysterious figure they discover is the root cause of the evil behind man's most unspeakable acts.

5. Ouija: Origin of Evil – 10/21

Okay, hear me out on this one. I didn't see the first one. It looked like your typical teen horror flick. For some reason, the 2nd one looks so much creepier! Just watch the trailer and tell me what you think!

It was never just a game. Inviting audiences again into the lore of the spirit board, Ouija: Origin of Evil tells a terrifying new tale as the follow-up to 2014’s sleeper hit that opened at number one. In 1965 Los Angeles, a widowed mother and her two daughters add a new stunt to bolster their séance scam business and unwittingly invite authentic evil into their home. When the youngest daughter is overtaken by the merciless spirit, this small family confronts unthinkable fears to save her and send her possessor back to the other side.

6. Tell Me How I Die – 9/16

I love this story – it's so interesting and different. The “doctor” seems really frightening. It's definitely one that will give you goosebumps. Don't watch this before bed, folks.

When a group of college students take part in an experimental drug study, an unexpected side effect gives them terrifying visions of their own murders… which begin to come true. As they scramble to outsmart and outmaneuver their date with death, they realize that the killer is among them and shares their ability to see the future – only he seems to be one step ahead in their race to survive.

7. Blair Witch – 9/16

Let me begin by saying that despite the negative views on The Blair Witch Project, I was always a fan. It was the first movie the truly terrified me. I thought it was real and it freaked me out! So, basically, I'm thrilled for this new movie. It's going to be incredible. To be honest though, I was hoping for more of a Paranormal Activity 1st-person point of view.

After discovering a video showing what he believes to be his sister's experiences in the demonic woods of the Blair Witch, James and a group of friends head to the forest in search of his lost sibling.

8. 31 – 9/16

This trailer really freaks me out! This movie is going to be one of the creepiest because it's a Rob Zombie movie. His movies are always so freaky because they are realistic. Plus, it's about clowns. CLOWNS, PEOPLE!

Five carnival workers are kidnapped and held hostage in an abandoned, Hell-like compound where they are forced to participate in a violent game, the goal of which is to survive twelve hours against a gang of sadistic clowns.

Clearly, 9/16 is the week of horror movies. Well, I hate to say it, but I hope these trailers creep you out as much as they did me. I am writing this at 2:00 am, right before bed – probably not the best idea. Seriously, don't watch these alone. You will end up tiptoeing around your own house and jumping at every little sound. Don't do it. You'll just set yourself up for failure. Not that I would know from personal experience or anything… a friend told me.

  1. I love the crazy/gory stuff. I am a HUGE American Horror Story fan which is all about that! I saw Don’t Breathe also and we LOVED it! The entire audience was silent every time they were. As always, movies are subjective. I was happy to be with an audience who loved it (they even clapped).

    Thanks for stopping by!

Scary movies are my favorite! Like you mentioned, it’s hard to come across a good scary movie or thriller these days. I’m excited to see the ones you listed. I’m not so sure about 31. I’ve seen Rob Zombie’s other movies and they’re pretty crazy/gory. On a side note, I went to a Rob Zombie concert last month. It was amazing!
I actually watched Don’t Breathe at the theater last night. I went with a gal pal. It wasn’t scary or even what I’d call a thriller. But it was definitely interesting and different from the norm.
